Türkiye Signals Possible Entry into Nuclear Arms Race

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Türkiye could be compelled to join a nuclear arms race if other states in the region acquire nuclear weapons.

"This issue must be considered in the context of the overall strategic situation. We do not want abrupt changes that could upset the existing balance of power in the region," Fidan emphasized.

He noted that countries with tense relations, such as Iran, may seek to develop nuclear arsenals. In such a scenario, Türkiye could potentially become involved in the arms race, even though it had not initially planned to participate.
