Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The traditional Khorezm dish tukhum barak — dumplings with an egg filling — has been officially registered as a product with geographical indication status, according to a statement by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

As noted in the announcement, tukhum barak is distinguished by its unique preparation method and special ingredients, rooted in deep historical traditions. The dish is widely popular among residents of the Khorezm region and stands as a vivid symbol of the area’s rich cultural and culinary heritage.

Under current legislation, a geographical indication is granted to a product whose quality, reputation, or other characteristics are essentially linked to its geographical origin.

Previously, several other Uzbek products have received geographical indication status, including Samarkand bread, Guzar tandoor-cooked meat, Chust knives, and Gijduvan kebab.
