Trump Announces Increase of All U.S. Import Tariffs to 15% Following Supreme Court Ruling
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that import tariffs will be raised to 15% for all countries worldwide.
The decision follows a Supreme Court ruling that deemed many of the tariffs previously imposed by the current administration unlawful.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated that the tariff will be increased from 10% to the legally maximum allowed rate of 15%.
He added that, in the coming months, his administration will determine and implement new tariffs fully compliant with legal requirements.
Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the president had exceeded his authority by using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977 to impose large-scale tariffs on dozens of trading partners.
Specifically, the court invalidated the “reciprocal” tariffs on imports from most countries, as well as the 25% tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico, and China.
Trump described the Supreme Court’s decision as “deeply disappointing” and accused the justices of yielding to “foreign interests,” calling the ruling “a disgrace to the nation.”
The increased 15% tariffs will take effect on February 24 and remain in force for 150 days. Extension beyond this period will require approval from the U.S. Congress.
Experts and congressional representatives have expressed skepticism about the likelihood of extending the tariffs, citing public opinion polls showing a growing number of Americans linking the tariffs to rising consumer prices.
