Trump Administration Announces Withdrawal from 66 International Institutions
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum terminating the country’s membership in 66 international organizations, the White House administration reported on the social media platform X on Wednesday, 7 January.
The document states that the United States is withdrawing from entities that, according to American authorities, “no longer serve the interests of the United States.”
According to the published information, 31 of these organizations operate under the United Nations framework, while the remaining 35 function independently of the UN. A complete list of the organizations is available on the official White House website.
Among them are the Ukrainian Science and Technology Center, established to support non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction; the European Commission for Democracy through Law, known as the Venice Commission; the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Violence against Children; the UN Democracy Fund; and several other institutions.
Commenting on the decision, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Trump administration deemed these structures “wasteful, inefficient, or harmful.”
He added that some are characterized by poor management, duplicate the functions of other institutions, or, from Washington’s perspective, pose a threat to U.S. national sovereignty, civil liberties, and “global prosperity.”
