Trial of Escaped Convict Charged with Rape of a Minor Begins in Tashkent Region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 22 December, the Akhangaran City Court of the Tashkent Region commenced legal proceedings against a 31-year-old man who escaped from a minimum-security penal colony while on a work assignment and subsequently raped an underage girl, according to the press service of the Supreme Court.
The defendant has been charged under Part 4 of Article 118 (Rape of a person under the age of fourteen) and Part 4 of Article 119 (Compelling a person under the age of fourteen into a sexual act in an unnatural form) of the Criminal Code. The individual faces a potential prison sentence ranging from 15 to 20 years.
In accordance with the requirements of Article 19 of the Criminal Procedural Code, the case is being heard in a closed session.
The incident occurred on 16 October 2025. The convict, who was previously sentenced in 2018 to 16 years of imprisonment under Part 4 of Article 118, had been transferred to a minimum-security settlement colony in August 2024 to serve the remainder of his term.
During his escape, he attacked a third-grade student and was subsequently apprehended by local residents in a field.
