Toll Road Planned in Andijan Region: Novy Andijan–Khanabad
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Andijan Region is set to build its first toll road, according to regional hokim Shukhrat Abdurakhmanov on his Telegram channel.
He noted that on 3 November, a meeting took place with representatives of Chinese companies to discuss prospects for attracting foreign investment to the region’s economy. Following the discussions, the parties agreed to implement a toll road project along the Novy Andijan–Khanabad route.
Until now, information about plans to construct a toll road in this area had not been published. Currently, the Uzbek government is working on four major toll road projects: Tashkent–Samarkand, Tashkent–Andijan, Samarkand–Bukhara, and Tashkent–Bektemir. In addition, the construction of a toll tunnel at the Takhtakaracha Pass is under consideration.
In April, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed naming the new city of Novy Andijan after the great poet and ruler Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur. The city is planned to host a large educational cluster, including kindergartens, schools, a university, a museum, a library, and an IT park. Funding of US$250 million has been allocated for the implementation of these projects.
Additionally, on 23 September, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis approved in main and final readings a new law “On Automobile Roads.” The law introduces modern legal mechanisms in the road sector and provides a regulatory framework for the development of a network of toll roads in Uzbekistan.
