Tokayev and Mirziyoyev pay tribute to Bahauddin Naqshband
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a working visit to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the mausoleum of Bahauddin Naqshband near Bukhara.
The complex, located about 12 kilometers from the ancient city of Bukhara, is one of the region’s most important Islamic pilgrimage sites. It is the burial place of the 14th-century theologian Bahauddin Naqshband, founder of the Naqshbandi Sufi order.
It is noted that the Uzbek and Kazakh peoples share common religious traditions and closely aligned spiritual values. Thinkers and theologians who lived in the territory of present-day Uzbekistan are also revered in Kazakhstan, including Bahauddin Naqshband.
The architectural complex was developed over several centuries and today includes the mausoleum, a khanqah for pilgrims built by Khan Abdulaziz, two mosques, a necropolis with burials of members of the Shaybanid, Ashtarkhanid, and Manghit dynasties, as well as a museum dedicated to the history of Sufism.
At the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, the site has been landscaped and partially restored to reflect its historical appearance. A historic passage from the Tok-i Miyon gate to the mausoleum has been reopened, with gardens established along both sides. A museum and ablution facilities have also been constructed, while restoration work continues on a madrasa built by Daniyalbiy, a ruler of the Bukhara Khanate from the Manghit dynasty.
During the visit, verses from the Quran were recited and prayers were offered for peace and prosperity for the brotherly nations.
