The second plenary meeting of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis ends

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Senators reviewed the results of a parliamentary inquiry on the state of law enforcement by the state customs service and the study of the activities of border customs posts in Tashkent region.

It was noted that in accordance with the response to the request submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 6 February 2020, the issues raised in the parliamentary request were comprehensively considered jointly with the responsible ministries and departments.

Concrete measures have been taken to eliminate the problems and shortcomings that exist in ensuring the full implementation of the issues raised in the parliamentary request, the prevention of corruption offenses in this area, and the establishment of interaction between the Compulsory Enforcement Bureau and other state bodies.

However, along with the work done, as a result of the fact that the parliamentary request has not been fully implemented, some systemic problems remain in the sphere. In particular, no mechanism has been developed to prevent congestion around border customs posts, and to ensure public order and road safety.

The meeting voiced recommendations to address these and other shortcomings. In particular, the need for developing an action plan by 15 April 2020 aimed at ensuring public order and road safety in the territories adjacent to customs posts is indicated. The need was emphasized for a three-month period for taking measures to establish round-the-clock currency exchange terminals at the customs border posts of the country, and to carry out cash and non-cash monetary operations. The relevant resolution of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis was adopted on this issue.

Senate members of the Oliy Majlis examined the issue of electing the Deputy Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) - the Commissioner for Children's Rights. Based on the results of the review, a corresponding resolution of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis was adopted.

Senators also considered the issue of amending the composition of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, according to which the corresponding resolution of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis was adopted.

During the second plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, 18 issues were considered, including 9 laws. The laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan approved by senators are aimed at strengthening the legal foundations of all spheres of society and increasing the efficiency of large-scale reforms and transformations implemented in the country, as well as the development of international cooperation.

At this, the second plenary meeting of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan ended.
