The results of the workshop "Advanced technologies for growing grapes"
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A seminar was held in the Namangan, Andijan and Ferghana regions within the framework of cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and the UNDP project “Improving Sustainability and Adaptation of Farmers of the Ferghana Valley to Climate Change” on the topic: “Modern technologies for growing grapes”, which was attended by over 150 vineyard farms, horticultural farms and grape growing households.
The climate of Uzbekistan allows to grow excellent grapes of various varieties and species, which are famous for their excellent taste. For many centuries, grapes have been a favorite treat, regardless of whether it is a freshly picked bunch or dried raisins. In addition, grapes have their own price attractiveness and demand in the export market.
Today, manufacturers are well aware that for exporting grape products for export, as well as for domestic consumption, it is necessary to produce high-quality competitive products with the least use of chemicals. In this regard, in the framework of this seminar, the participants were able to gain theoretical and practical knowledge on such issues as: features of creating new gardens, planting methods and schemes, features of drip and furrow irrigation, pruning and seasonal top dressing.
The participants were greatly interested in the fight against common diseases and pests of grapes. So, the seminar coach, an experienced specialist Erkin Usmonkhodzhaev spoke in detail about the causes of diseases and pests, provided information on effective methods of control, prevention and other important agrotechnical measures that have successfully proved themselves by gardeners.
“The seminar was rather lively, interesting, with a discussion of acute problems and solutions in the field of viticulture. I liked that the received materials from the seminar were clear and could be easily put into practice. Preparation of Bordeaux mixture and lime-sulfur broth, step-by-step instructions for feeding grapes, recommendations on agricultural technology were very helpful, which we almost forgot about in the pursuit of chemicals, and they are so useful for the garden and harmless to the environment and people, ”says one of the seminar participants, Akramjon Azizov.
Also at the seminar, the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted in practice with the results of work in vineyards, where, under the guidance of a trainer, they analyzed the condition of the vineyard: how effective were the measures taken to control pests and diseases, the condition of vines, soil, the correct pruning and the necessary measures for preparing the vineyard for winter.
UNDP activities in the field of modernization and intensive development of agriculture are carried out in accordance with the Development Strategy of Uzbekistan 2017-2021, as well as in the framework of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN member countries.
The project “Improving Resilience and Adaptation of Farmers of the Ferghana Valley to the Risks Associated with Climate Change” is being implemented as part of the climate window projects of the Trust Fund “Russian Federation - United Nations Development Program for Development”.
