Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 May, the regular meeting of the Council on Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation of Foreign Trade was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov.
During the meeting, the “Road Map” was considered, providing for the revision of excise tax rates and the application of non-tariff regulation of foreign trade, taking into account generally accepted norms and rules of international trade, including WTO agreements. These measures are aimed at minimizing the negative impact of changes in excise policy on certain sectors of the economy. The measures provided for in the Roadmap are aimed at ensuring the fulfillment by Uzbekistan of the obligations adopted under international agreements.
Also, based on an analysis of the current situation in the domestic and foreign markets, it was decided to create a Working Group, the task of which will be to develop promising proposals for optimizing customs privileges when trading in certain categories of goods.
In addition, during the meeting, a critical analysis of the work on improving the Council’s activities was carried out, based on which specific decisions were made aimed at improving the efficiency of this body, ensuring prompt response to the dynamics of market processes and timely adoption of appropriate measures in the field of tariff and non-tariff regulation of foreign trade.
The Council on Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation of Foreign Trade was formed in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 28 January 2019 “On the Organization of Activities of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
The main tasks of the Council are:
- the study of international experience and the development of proposals for setting customs duty rates and applying non-tariff regulation measures in the implementation of foreign trade;
- based on the current situation in the domestic and foreign markets, developing proposals for further improving the system of tariff and non-tariff regulation, as well as taking part in the formation of proposals for amending and supplementing the existing system of privileges for customs payments;
- preparation of proposals for improving the Commodity Nomenclature of Foreign Economic Activity of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the rules for the classification of goods.
