Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Washington has conducted online consultations with representatives of the Millennium Challenge Corporation of the United States.

Millennium Challenge Corporation is an independent US government agency providing assistance to developing nations.

During the meeting, prospects for improving the performance of Uzbekistan in the "Country Assessment Map" and the inclusion of the republic in the financial and technical assistance programs of the Corporation were discussed.

According to the Corporation’s estimates for the fiscal year 2020, Uzbekistan has made significant progress, in particular in terms of fiscal policy, access to credit, facilitated procedures for starting and running a business, expenditures on healthcare, immunization and child health.

At the same time, according to representatives of the Corporation, the republic has the opportunity to improve indicators of political and civil liberties, the fight against corruption and the rule of law. Separately, it was noted that it is necessary to provide data on the costs of the preschool education system in UNESCO in order to improve the country's position in terms of “investing in human capital”.

In case of improvement of indicators according to three basic criteria for assessing economic freedoms, equitable public administration and investing in human capital, countries can apply for financial and technical assistance programs of the Corporation.

According to the Embassy, within the framework of the implementation of the Decree of the President “On improving the position of the Republic of Uzbekistan in international ratings and indices, as well as introducing a new systematic system of working with them in government bodies and organizations”, focused work is being done to improve the performance of our country in international ratings and indices, in particular, in the Doing Business, Index of Economic Freedom, Rule of Law Index, World Happiness Report, etc.
