The President signs the Law on the Ratification of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a Law “On ratification of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants”.
This Convention was adopted in the city of Stockholm on 23 May 2001. To date, 182 states are parties to the convention.
Ratification of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (Stockholm, May 22, 2001) is one of the conditions of the European Union for Uzbekistan to obtain additional tariff preferences for the supply of domestic goods to the European market within the framework of the General System of Preferences "GSP +".
The Convention prohibits or significantly restricts the production and use of the 26 most dangerous chemical compounds used in agriculture and the chemical industry and adversely affecting human health and the state of land and water resources.
Ratification of the Convention will require the Republic of Uzbekistan to provide the Convention Secretariat with information on the availability of hazardous chemicals; the prohibition or restriction of the treatment of persistent organic pollutants, as well as their environmentally sound disposal in accordance with the National Action Plan, developed within 2 years after the entry into force of the Convention.
