The President sets tasks for development of economy of Kashkadarya region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 December, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a meeting in Karshi indicated the necessary structural changes in the economy of Kashkadarya and measures to ensure employment.

- To solve social issues, it is first of all necessary to develop the economy. In this regard, proposals were developed for the implementation in 2019-2020 of more than 1 thousand 200 projects in industry, agriculture, services and others, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

It was noted that in the current year more than 63 thousand foreign tourists visited the region, which is very small. Instructions have been given to make every effort to develop tourism, turning Shakhrisabz into a festival city.

The meeting criticized poor results in agriculture, serious shortcomings in cotton production. The task is to transfer next year 52 percent of cotton areas to the cluster method, to double the export of finished products.

The head of state pointed to the possibility of growing grapes on 10 thousand hectares in Yakkabag, Kamashinsky, Shakhrisabz, Kitab districts, watermelons on 20 thousand hectares of rainfed lands of Chirakchi and Kasan districts.

He noted that growing in dekhkan farms and on the household lands of chickpea, mung bean, beans, sesame and other popular crops could be a good source of employment and additional income.

The President talked to the residents of the region through video conferencing, gave instructions to the responsible persons regarding the solution of voiced proposals and problems.
