The number of students in Uzbekistan has more than doubled, with female students leading
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the 2024/2025 academic year, 381,700 students were admitted to higher education institutions in Uzbekistan, which is 2.2 times higher than the number in the 2020/2021 academic year, according to the National Statistics Committee.
Among the newly admitted students, the majority are women, totaling 196,700, while male students account for 185,000.
The distribution of students by region is as follows: Republic of Karakalpakstan — 18,600; Andijan region — 12,500; Bukhara — 31,500; Jizzakh — 6,300; Kashkadarya — 28,800; Navoi — 9,200; Namangan — 16,100; Samarkand — 21,200; Surkhandarya — 16,800; Syrdarya — 5,300; Tashkent region — 22,700; Ferghana — 20,700; Khorezm — 16,800; and the city of Tashkent — 155,200.
The city of Tashkent remains the country’s largest center of higher education, accommodating more than 40% of new students.
