The Number of Active Enterprises and Organizations in Uzbekistan Reaches 474,900

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 January 2026, Uzbekistan has 474,900 active enterprises and organizations, of which 403,800, or 85%, are small businesses and microfirms, according to the National Statistics Committee.

Regionally, the largest share of active enterprises and organizations is concentrated in the city of Tashkent (22.9%), followed by Tashkent Region (9.8%), Samarkand Region (8.7%), Fergana Region (8.0%), and Kashkadarya Region (6.4%).

By economic activity, the highest number of active enterprises is in trade, which accounted for 32.3% of all enterprises as of January 1, 2026. Industry ranks second with 12.5%, followed by agriculture, forestry, and fisheries at 7.4%. Together, these three sectors make up more than half of all active enterprises.

Among the 407,900 active commercial enterprises, limited liability companies (LLCs) account for 320,900 (78.7%), making them the most common legal form of business activity in the country.

Enterprises with foreign investment number 18,164 as of 1 January 2026, including 4,247 joint ventures and 13,917 wholly foreign-owned companies. Regionally, the highest share of foreign-invested enterprises is in the city of Tashkent (63.2%), followed by Tashkent Region (13.2%), Samarkand Region (3.7%), and Fergana Region (3.4%).

Over the past five years, the total number of foreign-invested enterprises in Uzbekistan has increased 1.9 times, while the share of wholly foreign-owned companies has grown from 54.9% to 76.6%.

Compared with the same period in 2025, the number of active enterprises with foreign investment increased by 3,293 (22.1%), driven by growth in trade (from 5,332 to 6,494 enterprises, an increase of 1,162), industry (from 3,217 to 3,754, up 537), and construction (from 1,085 to 1,412, up 327).

Among foreign investors, China leads with 5,044 active enterprises, accounting for 27.8% of all foreign-invested companies in Uzbekistan. Other significant investor countries include Russia (17.5%), Türkiye (11.8%), Kazakhstan (6.7%), South Korea (3.8%), and Afghanistan (3.5%).
