The next subregional dialogue on achieving gender equality is planned in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Representatives of the Yuksalish nationwide movement took part in the Central Asian dialogue of civic activists Leadership in an Age of Transformation in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

It covered Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and served as a platform for assessing current issues, the progress achieved in ensuring gender equality and the empowerment of women.

The subregional meeting was held as part of the preparation of an intergovernmental regional review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in accordance with the 2030 Agenda. Its goal is to expand opportunities for dialogue and jointly identifying new approaches necessary to accelerate the implementation of national commitments under the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, in conjunction with the priorities of the 2030 Agenda, which contribute to achieving gender equality and promoting the rights and opportunities of women in Central Asia.

It was noted that the rapidly changing reality poses new challenges and development paradigms for the countries of the region, the need to increase adaptability in the context of accelerating scientific and technological progress, and gaining competencies and skills. Ample opportunities are provided by information technology and social networks.

In the course of work in small groups, the issues of the role and place of civic activists in the development processes in the modern context of Central Asian countries, the influence and participation of civil society in achieving gender equality, cooperation, recommendations on strengthening the influence of civil society on accelerating the processes of achieving gender equality were discussed, which are the following action needs to be taken at the national and regional levels.

An agreement was reached on the creation of an information and methodological Center for Gender Equality for Central Asian countries, an ongoing dialogue on accelerating the process of achieving gender equality through new approaches to partnership between governments and civil society. Further joint actions have been agreed with a view to reflecting them at the upcoming Beijing + 25 regional and global consultations.

According to participants, the exchange of experience, opinions and strategies contributes to the enrichment of the arsenal of the practical use of information technology and social networks, so that the voice of civil activists is heard, its influence increases.

Next year, it was proposed to hold such a subregional dialogue in Tashkent.
