The Legislative Chamber ratifies the statute of the “Central Asia–China” Format Secretariat

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has reviewed a draft law on the ratification of the Statute of the Secretariat of the “Central Asia–China” format.

It was noted that the “Central Asia–China” format is an intergovernmental platform whose founding documents were signed by China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, thereby establishing its Secretariat.

This diplomatic format is being created to elevate cooperation between the participating states to a new level, strengthen centuries-old traditions of friendship and partnership based on mutual respect and trust, and foster closer ties and broader practical cooperation.

The Secretariat of the format was established pursuant to the Xi’an Declaration adopted on 19 May 2023 by the participating states.

It serves as the executive body of the Format and provides organizational, technical, and informational support for the summits of the participating states as well as for meetings of foreign ministers.

The draft law provides for the ratification of the Statute of the Secretariat of the “Central Asia–China” Format, which includes a preamble and four sections defining the functions, powers, structure, and composition of the Secretariat, as well as its rights, obligations, and legal status.

During the session, it was emphasized that adopting the draft law will ensure Uzbekistan’s participation in the work of the Secretariat, help advance regional initiatives, and effectively protect the country’s national interests.

Following the discussion, the draft law was approved by the deputies and sent to the Senate for further consideration.
