The Largest Aviation Hub in the Country to Be Built in Urtachirchik District
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A new international airport for the capital is planned to be constructed in the Urtachirchik district of Tashkent region. This was announced on 11 August by the regional governor, Zoir Mirzaev, during the "Hour of Hokimiyat" session.
According to him, to ensure transport accessibility, a railway project has been proposed that will connect Bekabad, Bekabad district, Bukinsky and Pskentsky districts, Nurafshan, and Tashkent. The construction of the over 100 km long rail line is scheduled for 2026.
The new airport will occupy an area of 1,200 hectares. Earlier in August, Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov clarified that the facility is planned to be built 17 km from the existing airport, south of the city. The location was chosen due to its proximity to key logistics and transport infrastructure, including the M-39 highway and the future toll road connecting Tashkent and Samarkand.
At the initial stage, the new hub will be capable of handling up to 20 million passengers per year, simultaneously accommodating 169 aircraft and supporting more than 40 takeoffs and landings per hour.
Javlonbek Umarhodzhaev, Chairman of Uzbekistan Airports, noted that the complex will be fully digitalized and constructed using modern technologies.
