Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19-23 May, Uzbekistan hosted the first international forum of youth of the fuel and energy complex, organized by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with the Republican Council of the Trade Union of Workers of the Energy, Oil and Gas Industries and Geology of Uzbekistan. The forum brought together about 500 representatives of active youth from Uzbekistan and neighboring countries.
The event was also attended by representatives of the Information Center for Nuclear Technologies (ICAT), who, with the support of the Uzatom Agency and the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, held lectures and interactive sessions for the forum participants, as well as an intellectual show “What? Where? When?".
Kasym Tokhtakhunov, Head of the Department of Atomic Energy and Nuclear Technologies of the Uzatom Agency, delivered a lecture to young power engineers on the topic “Ways of developing the energy sector in Uzbekistan”. In his presentation, he focused on the development of carbon-free energy sources such as renewable energy sources and nuclear power plants.
The planned NPP in Uzbekistan will consist of two VVER-1200 generation 3+ power units that meet all modern international requirements and IAEA recommendations. As a result of the launch of a nuclear power plant with a capacity of 2,400 MW, Uzbekistan will save 3.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. In addition, the nuclear power plant will prevent emissions into the atmosphere of about 14 million tons of carbon dioxide and 36 thousand tons of nitrogen oxides, which would be formed if the same amount of electricity was produced at thermal power plants that burn hydrocarbon fuel.
Sairam Igamov, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Deputy Director for Science and Innovation of the Tashkent branch of NRNU MEPhI, spoke in more detail about the physical aspects of nuclear energy. In his speech on the topic "Why nuclear energy?" He not only showed the evolution of the development of nuclear power, but also revealed the principles of NPP operation, the features and advantages of nuclear fuel over hydrocarbon, as well as the characteristics of the VVER-1200 reactor, including the latest safety systems.
“We are glad that the Forum brought together young power engineers from different countries and organizations. Young people of today are actively interested in new technologies and innovations, including nuclear technologies, which is undoubtedly encouraging. We believe that everyone in our country should have access to information and a clear understanding of energy, its problems and solutions. Today's forum has also become a platform for the formation of a community of young power engineers and leaders who develop the energy industry with the help of new knowledge and technologies,” said Gulrukhsor Ravshanova, head of the press service of the Uzatom Agency and ICAT.
