The experience of Uzbekistan in combating a pandemic is presented in Latvia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Uzbek Embassy in Latvia took part in a video call in a meeting with the Minister of Health Ilse Vinkele and the Chief Epidemiologist Yuri Perevoshchikov, organized for the diplomatic corps accredited in Riga, a Dunyo correspondent reports.

The event, which was attended by the heads of diplomatic missions of about 30 countries, exchanged views on practical measures to counter the coronavirus pandemic and the prospects for further intensification of international cooperation in the field of health, in particular, ensuring epidemiological safety.

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan K. Sultanov informed in detail the representatives of the healthcare sector of Latvia and the heads of diplomatic missions about unprecedented decisions and extraordinary initiatives of the leadership of Uzbekistan to overcome the impact of the pandemic and economic crises.

The deeply thought-out approach of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, primarily aimed at taking a set of measures to minimize human losses and mobilizing all resources to successfully overcome the prevailing economic difficulties, is highlighted.

In particular, it was reported about the operational creation of the US$1 billion Anti-Crisis Fund, the creation of a quarantine zone for 10 thousand people in record time, the dynamic construction of modern infectious disease clinics in the republic. On specific examples and figures, the unprecedented nature of measures of social protection of the population, especially its vulnerable layer, is noted. The deep symbolism of the initiative of the head of Uzbekistan “Kindness and Support” on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan, which is based on “the best human qualities of our people”, is emphasized.

In turn, the head of the Ministry of Health said that Latvia has come a long way in a short period of time in terms of combating COVID-19 and has accumulated rich practical experience in this area. Ilse Vinkele called on the countries of the world to closely coordinate and interact in the face of pandemic challenges.

Chief epidemiologist Y. Perevoshchikov positively assessed the measures taken by Uzbekistan to counter the spread of coronavirus and noted the similarity of the efforts of Uzbekistan and Latvia undertaken in the framework of the fight against COVID-19.
