Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 August 2020, a meeting was held in the form of video conference mode on the final discussion of the draft Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2020-2030.
It was attended by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairperson of the Commission on Ensuring Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva.
The event was also attended by the Acting Permanent Representative of the United Nations in Uzbekistan Ashita Mittal, the Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Uzbekistan Yu Yu, representatives of other authoritative international organizations and more than 50 non-governmental organizations.
It was noted that gender equality is not only an expression of fundamental human rights, but also an essential foundation for achieving peace, prosperity and sustainable development. In this sense, the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality, developed by the Gender Commission together with partners, is an important document aimed at implementing state policy in this direction. Its main goal is to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men in all spheres, in public life in the process of socio-economic reforms being carried out in the republic.
It was noted that the document had been studied for about a year by various state and non-state organizations, including the UN, OSCE and other structures that gave their proposals.
During the meeting, the participants made suggestions and recommendations to improve the draft Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2020-2030.
