The defense departments of Uzbekistan and the UK held negotiations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Representatives of the Ministries of Defense of Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom held talks in the form of a videoconference, Dunyo reported.

From the Uzbek side, the event was attended by the head of the Main Directorate of International Military Cooperation of the Ministry of Defense D. Khasanov, as well as employees of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in London. Negotiating partners were Director of the Department of International Security Policy for Central Asia and the Euro-Atlantic area of the British military department N. Gurr and British diplomats.

The parties discussed topical issues of international and regional security, shared the experience of the defense departments in facilitating the fight against Covid-19, and exchanged views on promising areas for the development of bilateral military-technical cooperation in a pandemic.

Highly appreciating the results of his trip to Tashkent in March 2020, N. Gurr stated his firm commitment to the United Kingdom to develop comprehensive cooperation with Uzbekistan, including on issues of regional security and the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Afghanistan.

The British military said he supported the policy of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to strengthen cooperation with the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan, which contributes to stability and prosperity in the region.

Pointing to the active participation of British troops in countering the coronavirus crisis in the United Kingdom, N. Gurr expressed his willingness to exchange experiences with Uzbek colleagues in this direction. At the same time, he highly appreciated the effective measures taken by the leadership of Uzbekistan to prevent the growth of the Covid-19 crisis in the republic, as well as to eliminate the consequences of a man-made disaster on the Sardoba reservoir.

Following the talks, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further enhancing cooperation in the field of security, agreed to regularly hold consultations to exchange views and practical implementation of the agreements reached.
