The construction of the Olympic Village has been completed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 18 August, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Olympic Village in Tashkent, the construction of which began on 9 November 2022.

The Head of State noted that this complex has become a symbol of the country’s creative potential and the remarkable achievements of Uzbek sport, combining modern architecture, energy efficiency, and innovative solutions.

The complex, built on an area of more than 100 hectares by CAMC Engineering, cost nearly 290 million US dollars and meets international standards. The Village includes five main sports facilities.

Special attention has been given to the velodrome. Its track is made of the most durable wood species in strict compliance with International Olympic Committee requirements. The facility maintains stable indoor temperature and accounts for air resistance. The stands can accommodate 2,200 spectators, and the venue is equipped with protective barriers as well as infrastructure that allows it to host table tennis and fencing competitions. The President instructed officials to develop a program for promoting cycling in the regions and to create the necessary conditions for its growth.

The central stadium, with a capacity of 12,000 seats, is designed for competitions in 48 athletics disciplines, international tournaments, Paralympic events, and dual education programs. The President ordered the development of measures to advance all areas of athletics, including the reconstruction of regional stadiums, the involvement of foreign coaches, and the enhancement of athletes’ skills.

The Palace of Water Sports is equipped with swimming and diving pools, training gyms, and meets international standards, as confirmed by a World Aquatics inspection. The facility can host Asian and world championships, including Olympic disciplines.

The indoor arenas for team sports and martial arts have been constructed across three floors with stands for 2,000 spectators. They are designed for training and international competitions in volleyball, basketball, handball, judo, boxing, and taekwondo.

The President met with athletes, stressing the importance of their victories for the country and for young people, and highlighted the need for further development of aquatic sports and for improving performance in international tournaments.

In addition, the Village features 15 outdoor sports grounds, a dormitory for 400 Paralympic athletes nearing completion, and a Scientific and Practical Center for Sports Medicine. All facilities are equipped with energy-efficient technologies, including solar panels installed at parking areas.
