The Central Bank of Uzbekistan Increased Its Gold Reserves in August

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In August 2025, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan increased its official gold reserves by 2 tons, bringing the total volume to 366 tons, the World Gold Council (WGC) reports.

This increase comes amid strong demand from other central banks worldwide and aligns with the ongoing trend of building up gold reserves as a means of strengthening a country’s international reserves.

Compared to the end of 2024, Uzbekistan’s foreign exchange and gold reserves decreased by 17 tons; however, the recent purchases indicate the Central Bank’s continued interest in gold as a strategic reserve asset.

Globally, in August 2025, seven central banks reported increases in gold reserves of one ton or more. Kazakhstan added 8 tons, China and Turkey each added 2 tons, while Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, and Ghana also increased their reserves by 2 tons each.

Meanwhile, Russia and Indonesia were the only net sellers of gold, reducing their reserves by 3.1 and 1.8 tons, respectively.

The total net purchases by central banks amounted to approximately 15 tons, reflecting a return to an active accumulation policy following a pause in July.
