The annual Asian conference of the Valdai Discussion Club to be held in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10–11 November 2019, the annual Asian conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club will be held in Samarkand. The conference is being held for the tenth time, and over the years it has become an important platform for expert discussions on regional problems and common global challenges.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Central Asia and Eurasia: Multilateral Cooperation Facing the Challenges of Global Disorder.” The club chose Uzbekistan, one of the leading countries of Central Asia, as the venue for the jubilee Xth Asian Conference. The policy of strengthening regional cooperation of the new President of the country, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, supported by the leaders of neighboring countries, radically changed the atmosphere of relations in Central Asia.

Uzbekistan will be represented by the Secretary of the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Viktor Makhmudov, Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investment and Tourism Alisher Kurmanov, Chairman of the Committee on Democratic Institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations and Self-Government Bodies of the Legislative Chamber Oliy Majlis Akmal Saidov.

The director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies Eldor Aripov, the director of the Information and Analytical Center for International Relations Daniyar Kurbanov, the director of the Center for International, Economic and Political Studies of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Sherzod Abdullaev will take part in the conference at the expert level from the Uzbek side.

During the conference, the most urgent problems of the region will be considered taking into account large-scale changes in the world arena. The topic of international security and the development of macro-regional sustainability will occupy an important place on the agenda of the issues under discussion.

The Valdai Asian Conference in Samarkand will bring together more than 70 experts from 11 countries, in particular from Uzbekistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, India, Tajikistan, Germany, the Philippines, Japan, and Sweden.

This year, representatives of Western countries take part in the Asian Valdai for the first time, among them: Corresponding Member of the Institute for the Study of Peace in Frankfurt, Hans-Joachim Spanger; Gregory Simons, Associate Professor, Institute of Russian and Eurasian Studies (IRES), Uppsala University; Scientific Director of the German-Russian Forum Alexander Rar. Representatives of major Asian nations include Sasakawa Peace Foundation Senior Research Fellow Taisuke Abiru; Zhao Huasheng, Professor, Institute of International Studies, Fudan University; Executive Director of the Philippine Center for Futurology Alan Ortiz and others.

On the Russian side, the conference will be attended by Viktor Shakhmatov, head of the analytical support department of the Protocol and Organizational Support Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission; Gaukhar Nurgalieva, Head of the Eurasian Research Laboratory of the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO; Chairman of the Board of the Development and Support Fund of the Valdai Discussion Club Andrei Bystritsky; Fyodor Lukyanov, Director for Research, Development and Support Fund for the Valdai Discussion Club; program director of the Valdai club Timofei Bordachev and others.

The session on the joint development of regional cooperation, dedicated to finding ways to increase global stability in the current state of the world economy, which faces complex challenges - trade wars and unilateral sanctions, promises to be interesting. Particular attention will also be paid to discussing prospects and approaches to the future of Asia.

The future of bilateral dialogue between Uzbekistan and Russia is brought up in a separate session. The subject of discussion will be the state of bilateral relations, as well as the search for new forms and directions of cooperation between the two states.
