Tender announced for the construction of three hydropower plants in Kashkadarya region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekhydroenergo, supervised by the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, announces an international tender for the design and construction of three hydroelectric power stations (HPPs) on the Aksu River in Kashkadarya region. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

The construction of three hydropower plants is part of a sustainable hydropower project in Uzbekistan, which is also supported by international financial institutions, in particular the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

According to the National Energy Strategy of Uzbekistan, by 2030, a quarter of the total electricity will be generated from renewable energy sources (RES). The strategy envisages the deployment of up to 30 GW of additional energy capacity over a decade, including 3.8 GW of hydropower along with 5 GW of solar energy and up to 3 GW of wind energy. These plans are also related to the growing role of Uzbekistan in regional and international energy markets.

It should be noted that in October 2019, ADB approved funding of US$60 million for the construction of hydroelectric power plants in Uzbekistan with a total generating capacity of 25 MW. The total cost of the project is US$75.3 million; the completion of construction is scheduled for the end of 2023.

Three hydroelectric power stations will have a total capacity of 24 MW: 6 MW - "Rabat", 8 MW - "Chappasuy" and 10 MW - "Tamsush" with an accompanying power line (35-110 kV and 22 km in length) and mini-hydro aggregates 1 MW.

Open competitive bidding (International Announcement) will be held in accordance with the ADB tender procedure “One-stage: two-envelope” and open to all bidders from eligible countries, as described in the tender document.

Uzbekhydroenergo, established in May 2017, is a state-owned enterprise responsible for the operation of hydropower plants in Uzbekistan. Currently, Uzbekhydroenergo includes 37 power plants with an installed capacity of 1.853 MW.
