Tatarstan President visits historical costume theater in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov visited the cultural and ethnographic presentation “Moments of Eternity” during a working visit to Samarkand.

Rustam Minnikhanov was accompanied by the khokim of Samarkand region Erkinjon Turdimov.

The performance was held at the historical costume theater in Samarkand. During the show, the artists demonstrated costumes of various historical eras of Uzbekistan - from the Bronze Age to the present day.

This includes the costumes of the Saks-Masagets, fire-worshipers, Persian and Sogdian rulers and nobles. In addition, a large collection of colorful costumes of the Timurids era was presented, as well as a collection of costumes from various regions of Uzbekistan.

Historical costumes are recreated as accurately as possible based on the materials of the collections of leading world museums - the Hermitage, the Milan Museum of History, the British History Museum, the Royal Institute of Arts and History in Brussels, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

As noted, when sewing costumes, rough fabrics, hides, leather, silk, velvet, brocade, and handmade fabrics were used.

To date, about 200 unique costumes have been created in the historical costume theater in Samarkand.

As for the presentation of “The Moment of Eternity” itself, it consists of 11 theatrical fragments, episodes. Fragments of various musical works were used as the musical background in the program. This includes classical national music (nai, gidzhak, dutar and doira), a medley of oriental melodies performed by foreign performers and musicians of Uzbekistan. The sounds of nature, historical battles, the clang of swords and even the clatter and wheezing of horses are also used.

The historical costume theater is located in the center of Samarkand, in a historical building and seats 90 spectators. The theater has a small cozy teahouse where you can drink tea with traditional sweets. Also, theater visitors can try on historical costumes and take a photo for memory.

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov praised the cultural and ethnographic presentation. He proposed to send specialists from Tatarstan to Samarkand to study in detail the experience of Uzbek colleagues in working with historical costumes, as well as using similar theatrical shows to attract tourists in the territory of the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve.
