Tashkent Signs Agreements with Argentina, Australia, and Honduras on Path to WTO Membership
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has taken another step toward accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
According to Azizbek Urunov, the President’s Representative for WTO Affairs, a delegation led by Head of the Presidential Administration Saida Mirziyoyeva signed bilateral market access protocols this week in Geneva with Argentina, Australia, and Honduras.
Urunov stressed that these agreements mark an important confirmation of growing support and partnership in Uzbekistan’s integration into the multilateral trading system. He added that, alongside the signed documents, Uzbekistan also reached preliminary agreements with two additional WTO members.
“These agreements not only advance the accession negotiations but also open new channels for economic cooperation, trade diversification, and stronger ties with partners across different regions of the world. Each new signature brings Uzbekistan closer to full WTO membership — a milestone that will create fresh opportunities for the country’s economy, the region, and global trading partners,” he emphasized.
To date, Uzbekistan has concluded 29 market access agreements and reached preliminary arrangements with two more countries. To fully complete bilateral negotiations, terms still need to be agreed with three states.
Earlier, in July this year, Tashkent finalized its WTO accession talks with Switzerland.
