Tashkent Official Detained for Receiving Bribe

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a joint operation by the Tashkent City State Security Service and the Main Department of Internal Affairs, authorities uncovered a corruption case involving a senior specialist from the Ministry of Construction and Housing Utilities.

The official was detained while receiving a bribe of US$1,500 from the head of a company managing apartment buildings in the capital. An attempted escape by the suspect was thwarted thanks to prompt action by law enforcement officers.

Investigation revealed that the official had demanded US$2,200 to facilitate the transfer of management for six residential buildings in Yunusabad district from one company to another through the “My Home” billing platform, intending to leverage his influential contacts to resolve the matter.

A criminal case has been opened, and investigative actions are ongoing.

Authorities emphasized that any illegal activities carry criminal liability, including imprisonment, and underscored that compliance with the law remains the only correct course of action.
