Tashkent Metro to Receive 14 More Trains in 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2026, the Tashkent Metro is set to receive an additional 14 trains, adding 56 carriages to the system, the metro’s press service reported. The announcement comes amid social media complaints about overcrowding during peak hours.
The statement notes that for nearly 40 years, the metro network comprised 29 stations spanning 38 km. Over the past six years, an additional 33 km of lines and 21 new stations have been opened, bringing the network to 50 stations covering a total of 71 km.
According to the metro administration, daily ridership increased from 280–300 thousand passengers in 2021 to 920–930 thousand in 2024, and currently exceeds 1 million passengers per day.
To reduce passenger congestion and shorten travel times during peak hours (7:30–9:00), train intervals have been shortened over the past three years. On the Chilanzar line, intervals decreased from 5 to 1.5 minutes; on the Uzbekistan line, from 6 to 3 minutes; on the Yunusabad line, from 11 to 4 minutes; and on the overground Circle line, from 12 to 9 minutes.
The metro administration again urged passengers to follow safety and etiquette rules: avoid lingering near train doors, exit quickly at stations, do not lean on doors, keep personal belongings with you, and respect fellow passengers.
