Tashkent hosts seminar on human rights
Public Fund for Support and Development of independent print mass media and information agencies of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Uzbek Agency for Print and Information, National Center for human rights of Uzbekistan organized the event.
The seminar was aimed at strengthening responsibility of mass media representatives in covering reforms in the sphere of protecting human rights and freedoms, respecting dignity, creating favourable conditions for population, etc.
It was noted that Uzbekistan adopted a national programme on raising legal culture, which became an important step on the way of ensuring human rights and interests.
It was said that Uzbekistan reconsidered activities of legal education institutions and teaching of law was introduced to all stages of education.
The participants underlined that mass media play a key role in improving legal knowledge of population. Currently, over 100 mass media are specializing in promoting law. There are five magazines and 21 newspapers, which specialize in legal sphere.
At the seminar, representatives of mass media received information on judicial-legal reforms in Uzbekistan, including in protecting human rights and freedoms. It was underlined that Uzbekistan abolished capital punishment, which was acknowledged by international community.
Withinthe seminar, the winners of the national contest “Human rights – in sight of journalists” was announced. The contest received 500 works and the winners received valuable prizes.
