Tashkent Hosts Romanian-French Poetry Evening
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 25 March 2026, Tashkent hosted a Romanian-French poetry evening dedicated to the work of Gerasim Luca, a leading figure of the surrealist movement in Romania.
Born in Bucharest in 1914, Luca later moved to France, where he passed away in 1994 in Paris. The event was organized with support from the Tashkent French Alliance and the Embassy of Romania in Uzbekistan as part of the Francophonie celebrations.
During the evening, Romania’s Ambassador Daniel Cristian Cobanu expressed satisfaction with the organization of the cultural event and highlighted the significant potential for further collaboration between the countries. Adrian Uge, Vice President of the Tashkent French Alliance, spoke in detail about Luca’s life and works and conducted a poetry masterclass for the guests.
Uzbekistan and Romania have been actively developing cultural cooperation. In January 2025, the National Library of Alisher Navoi hosted a poetry evening dedicated to Mihai Eminescu, alongside the opening of the exhibition “Romanian Writers in the Photostudios of Their Time,” timed to Romania’s National Culture Day.
The Tashkent poetry evening attracted students, young people, and art enthusiasts, reflecting a growing interest in literature and cultural connections between Uzbekistan, Romania, and France.
