Tashkent hosts a seminar on priorities for the further development of the food industry

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 29 July 2019, in order to effectively use the current potential of the Uzbekistan’s agrarian sector, introduce advanced technologies, create an intensive agricultural system and further develop the food industry, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on additional measures for rough processing of agricultural products and further development of the food industry.

In the framework of this resolution, in 2019-2021, it is envisaged:

- creation in 8 regions of the republic (Andijan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Samarkand, Surkhanrya, Tashkent, Ferghana and Khorezm regions) of large agrology complexes at the expense of foreign credit lines with a storage capacity of 3 million tons of products and the creation of 37 modern agrology centers in the regions of the republic ( 360 thousand tons).

- creation of 174 enterprises for processing agricultural products and 24 enterprises for the production of import-substituting food products;

- replacement of 36 thousand hectares of inefficient gardens with intensive gardens

- of specialized fruit and vegetable areas;

- modernization and equipping of testing laboratories at the republican, Namangan and Samarkand regional testing and certification centers of the Uzstandart agency,

- as well as the implementation of 726 international standards in the food industry;

As a result of the implementation of the resolution, it is planned to solve existing problems in the industry, introduce effective intensive technologies and take effective measures to develop the food industry, and it is planned to achieve the following goals:

- an increase in the volume of processing and export of agricultural products by 2-2.5 times;

- the development of the agrology system will bring storage capacities up to 3.8 million tons of one-time storage;

- an increase in the capacity for the production of import-substituting food products by 118 thousand tons;

- creation of capacities for processing agricultural products up to 876 thousand tons;

On 7 August 2019, a seminar was held at the Ministry of Economy and Industry on the priority tasks for the deep processing of agricultural products and the further development of the food industry in order to bring to the general public the essence and nature of this Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as discuss the opportunities and expected results.

The seminar was attended by over 500 agricultural specialists from all regions of the Republic, representatives of ministries, departments, local authorities, international organizations (World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, FAO, European Union and JICA), business circles and business entities, as well as manufacturers of agricultural machinery and food products.

At the same time, representatives of a number of companies operating in the field of agriculture spoke at the event to exchange best practices in the field of agriculture. The issues of organizing the effective operation of agrology centers, introducing a system of cooperatives, developing a system for processing fruits and vegetables and dairy products, as well as localizing production in the food industry were discussed.

Also within the framework of the seminar, an exhibition of food products, agricultural machinery and a trip to manufacturing enterprises were organized.
