Tashkent gymnasts shine in Dubai
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the international rhythmic gymnastics tournament Pirouette Challenge Cup 2025 in Dubai, Uzbekistan was proudly represented by several athletes, including pupils of coach Sevinc Takhirova. Two of them, Mera Elkholi (8 years old) and Yasmina Mahmudova (10 years old), won gold medals at the tournament.
A total of six young gymnasts, coached by Takhirova, traveled to the UAE, representing Sports School #2 of the Yakksaray district of Tashkent.
This is not the first participation of Takhirova's students, a Master of Sports in rhythmic gymnastics and a coach of the highest category, in the Dubai tournament organized by the International Club League.
In 2024, Mera Elkholi not only won gold but also the Grand Prix of the tournament.
This year, from April 17-20, participants from 16 countries gathered to compete in the Pirouette Challenge Cup in Dubai. Athletes from the UAE, Russia, and other nations took part in the event.
For the young athletes from Uzbekistan, aged 7-10 years, representing their country made the competition even more exciting. In addition to the 2 gold medals, the girls also won 2 silver and 2 bronze awards. Now, they will add these international victories to their successes in national competitions.
Such participation is a valuable experience. It teaches focus, the ability to concentrate on victory, and how to perform with dignity despite challenges like age, long flights, and acclimatization.
Despite their young age, the girls understood well that they were representing not just themselves but the overall level of Uzbek sports. Many of them have been practicing rhythmic gymnastics since the age of 4, striving to fulfill all the tasks set by their coach.
The result of their dedication is evident in their victories and strong performances at international tournaments, with Uzbekistan's flag proudly flying at the top of the podium.
