Tashkent City Administration Explains Cutting of Spruce Trees on Bobur Street

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Tashkent city administration has issued an official statement regarding the situation involving the cutting of spruce trees on Bobur Street.

According to the statement, during landscaping and greening works — which include the planting of 83 pyramidal gleditsias (honey locusts) and over 62,000 decorative shrubs — negligence occurred in handling the previously existing trees.

The hokimiyat reported that approximately 145 spruce trees had been growing in the area, most of which, according to expert assessments, were diseased and in a state of decay.

Initially, the plan was to carefully transplant the trees, but the responsible contractors failed to perform the work in compliance with the required standards.

An internal investigation is currently underway, and appropriate measures will be taken against those found responsible.

The city administration emphasized that all beautification efforts aim to create a comfortable, safe, and environmentally sustainable urban environment. The statement also expressed gratitude to the residents of the capital for their active attention to environmental protection issues.

Former member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and current adviser to the Minister of Ecology Rasul Kusherbayev stated that the cutting of the spruce trees on Bobur Street had been carried out without coordination with the Ministry of Ecology.

He noted that Uzbekistan has a moratorium on tree cutting; however, local authorities do not always comply with the President’s directives aimed at protecting green spaces.

Kusherbayev stressed that such incidents undermine efforts to preserve the ecological balance in cities and require a firm response from the responsible government bodies.
