Tashkent celebrates 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Russia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A series of events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent on 30 November 2017.

A historical documentary exhibition “Russia and Uzbekistan: 25 years of strategic partnership” was opened at UzExpoCenter.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the authorities of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation, the delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Ilyas Umakhanov, the Extraordinary Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Tyurdenev, and other officials.

The greeting of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, placed in the exhibition catalog, was announced by the head of the Presidential Administration for Interregional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Vladimir Chernov.

In the welcome message of the President of Russia to the organizers and participants of the exhibition it was noted that “Relations between our countries are based on good traditions of friendship and mutual assistance. The peoples of Russia and Uzbekistan stood together during the years of severe military trials, shared the joy of victories, together they raised them from the ruins of Tashkent after a devastating earthquake.”

The greeting of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was read by the State Adviser of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Khayriddin Sultanov.

In particular, it says: “Over the past quarter century, significant results have been achieved in strengthening the multifaceted relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation, which have reached a level of strategic partnership and cooperation.”

The exhibition will last for a month, residents of Tashkent and other cities of Uzbekistan will be able to familiarize themselves with unique documents, which reveal the dynamic and progressive character of relations between our countries at the present stage of development of political, economic, cultural cooperation. A special section of the exhibition contains historical documents telling about the events of the war years, when Uzbekistan became the second home for thousands of evacuated residents from other republics of the Soviet Union and the restoration of Tashkent by joint efforts after the devastating earthquake of 1966.

At the end of the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Chernov awarded Galina Melnikova with the Order of Friendship in accordance with the Decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Discussion of various aspects of cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan continued on the site of the Moscow State University branch, where the representative international conference "New horizons for the partnership of Uzbekistan and Russia: the economy, security, humanitarian dialogue" was held with the participation of leading experts of the two countries.

Participants of the discussion noted the most promising areas of the bilateral dialogue, including cooperation at the level of universities in Russia and Uzbekistan, as well as scientific cooperation between historians, political scientists and representatives of other humanitarian fields.
