Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 17 December, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, headed by Speaker Woo Won-shik, who arrived in the country to take part in the third meeting of speakers of parliaments of the Republic of Korea and the Central Asian states.

At the beginning of the meeting, the distinguished guest conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes to the head of state from President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myung.

During the talks, the parties discussed issues related to the further development of the special strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea, including along the parliamentary track. The high dynamics of political dialogue and inter-parliamentary contacts were noted with satisfaction, as well as the steady growth of mutual trade and Korean investment, primarily in the modernization of Uzbekistan’s economy and the creation of high-technology industries.

The expansion of humanitarian and educational cooperation was also highlighted. At present, four branches of leading Korean universities are successfully operating in Uzbekistan, along with vocational education centers in various regions of the country.

The sides expressed support for the implementation of joint projects in the areas of infrastructure development, transport and logistics, processing of rare metals and critical raw materials, as well as the digitalization of legislative activities and the introduction of modern governance solutions.

The importance of preparing a Program of Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation and intensifying the work of friendship groups in the parliaments of the two countries was emphasized.

Attention was also drawn to the need for thorough elaboration of the agenda of upcoming high-level events, including within the framework of the “Central Asia – Republic of Korea” summit.
