Tashkent and New York Consider Establishing Partnership Relations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting took place at the Tashkent city administration between the capital’s khokim, Shavkat Umurzakov, and a New York delegation led by Mayor Eric Adams.

During the discussion, the parties addressed key issues concerning the development of major cities, exchanged experience on modernizing urban infrastructure, and explored prospects for cooperation between Tashkent and New York.

Shavkat Umurzakov presented the guests with the main directions of the “Tashkent Development Strategy 2030,” including large-scale urban planning and investment initiatives. Among them are the “New Tashkent” project, the creation of the “Yangi Avlod” industrial zone, the expansion of public spaces, and other components of long-term urban transformation.

Particular emphasis was placed on reforms in the transport sector, logistics, and public utilities. The khokim highlighted projects implemented in partnership with major international companies, including Marriott, Wendy’s, Pepsi from the United States, DP World from the UAE, and France’s VEOLIA.

Eric Adams praised the pace of ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan and noted the scale of transformation taking place under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He emphasized that Tashkent’s development is moving in the right direction and is creating new opportunities for strengthening international ties. The mayor expressed readiness to deepen cooperation and stated that the delegation’s visit will allow for a more detailed review of current projects.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to begin preparing an Agreement on Partnership between Tashkent and New York. The document will serve as a foundation for long-term cooperation in comprehensive urban development, culture, innovation, and the economy.
