Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 22 November 2019, the 50th plenary meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States was held in the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg, during which 11 model legislative acts were adopted. Following the event, a press conference was held. This was reported by the Senate Information Service of the Oliy Majlis.
At a plenary meeting on behalf of the delegation of parliamentarians of Uzbekistan, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva spoke.
She noted that Uzbekistan, considering the IPA as one of the important inter-parliamentary associations, renewed its membership, which opened a new page in relations between parliamentarians of the member countries of this association. The multifaceted and productive partnership of the republic with states is expanding noticeably, including through the parliamentary dimension.
The Senate Chairperson emphasized that the IPA CIS is a unique platform for fulfilling the tasks assigned to each of the parliaments of the participating states and aimed at ensuring security, sustainable development and prosperity of peoples.
It was noted that the Assembly not only actively and effectively promotes the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the participating countries, but already occupies a worthy place in the system of world parliamentarism, has an invaluable role in promoting the principles of parliamentarism characteristic of countries.
The readiness was expressed to continue joint work to accomplish the tasks of the IPA. It was emphasized that the agenda of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly is always quite multifaceted and versatile, and the issues addressed are always relevant for all countries, they contribute to improving their legislative framework, the exchange of experience between parliamentarians, and further enhancing the international image of the IPA.
It was emphasized that taking this into account, Uzbekistan sets specific goals for joint solution of urgent problems, strengthening trust and mutual understanding, expanding practical cooperation between the countries within the framework of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
Support was expressed for the practice of forming model lawmaking, IPA initiatives for the development of the youth movement, tourism, the environment, information technology and other issues.
Senate Chairperson Oliy Majlis emphasized that Uzbekistan over the past three years under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyeva successfully promotes her updated domestic and foreign policy. In the ongoing large-scale transformations in Uzbekistan, the country’s parliament plays a special role. Serious attention is also paid to parliamentary diplomacy, the development of bilateral and multilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Uzbekistan is preparing to assume the chairmanship of the Commonwealth in 2020 and hold the next CIS summit. In this plan, the Chairmanship Concept and the Action Plan for its implementation were prepared and approved taking into account the priorities identified by Uzbekistan at the CIS summit in Ashgabat in October this year.
It was emphasized that the priorities include solving urgent problems aimed at developing the Commonwealth and further enhancing its international image, as well as strengthening cooperation among member states in the areas of security, trade and economic relations and industrial cooperation, transport communications and logistics, science and technology, innovation, culture, tourism, education, health care and other issues.
It was noted that work in the implementation of these priorities also provides for active and fruitful cooperation within the framework of the CIS IPA.
In this regard, Tanzila Narbaeva proposed holding one of the IPA meetings in Uzbekistan as part of the country’s chairmanship in the CIS. The Speaker of the Senate in her speech especially emphasized the active participation of the multinational people of Uzbekistan along with all progressive humanity in the Second World War, its worthy contribution to ensuring the Great victory over fascism.
In this regard, Uzbekistan has worked out a set of measures to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory, and the President’s Decree on the worthy celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in World War II was adopted, including a program of key events for holding an important event. One of the most striking events is the construction of Victory Park in the city of Tashkent with the memorial complex “Ode to Fortitude”. These and other events should serve as an important foundation for educating our young generation in the spirit of patriotism, friendship and mutual support not only in Uzbekistan, but also in all CIS countries.
The Chairperson of the Senate expressed confidence that the decisions adopted at the plenary meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly will be an important step in further developing and improving the effectiveness of cooperation between Uzbekistan within the framework of the CIS IPA.
