Tanzila Narbaeva Meets with Children’s Ombudsmen from Central Asia and Europe
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of the First International Forum of Ombudsmen of Central Asian countries, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva held a meeting with children’s ombudsmen from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives from Norway, Croatia, and Finland, which currently chairs the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC).
The meeting focused on strengthening the legal framework for child rights protection and ensuring effective parliamentary oversight in this area.
Participants praised Uzbekistan’s legislative system for safeguarding children’s rights. They highlighted the laws “On Guarantees of the Rights of the Child,” “On Education,” and the region’s unique law “On Protecting Children from All Forms of Violence.” Uzbekistan’s practice of annually presenting the Ombudsman for Children’s report to parliament was recognized as a model for other countries.
The session also included an exchange of views on cooperation with international organizations in the field of child protection, as well as the active involvement of parliaments, government bodies, and NGOs in implementing recommended initiatives.
