Swedish Delegation Discusses Protection of Migrant Children with Uzbekistan’s Child Ombudsman

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of a working visit to the Office of the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Children’s Rights in Uzbekistan, a Swedish delegation held a meeting focused on migration and its impact on children.

The delegation, representing the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the Ministry of Justice of Sweden, received detailed information about the activities of the Child Ombudsman and discussed specific practical cases involving Swedish citizens residing in Uzbekistan.

Particular attention was given to vulnerable groups of children who, during the migration process, face risks such as family separation, limited access to social protection systems, and lack of legal support.

During the meeting, the parties explored possible avenues for cooperation, including ensuring the rights of children from migrant families to education and social protection, implementing joint adaptation programs for children in foreign countries, organizing training courses on Swedish legislation, culture, and social structures, as well as establishing an interagency mechanism for practical cooperation on child protection issues.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Swedish delegation expressed strong interest in the work of the Child Ombudsman and confirmed its readiness for constructive cooperation to exchange expertise, prevent problems, and safeguard the interests of children.
