State Museum of Timurid History Closes in Tashkent for Renovation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The State Museum of Timurid History in Tashkent has been closed for renovation works as of 25 February, the press service of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan has announced.
The reconstruction works include modernizing the museum's infrastructure in line with contemporary requirements, expanding and updating its exhibitions, and creating a more comfortable and interactive environment for visitors. As noted in the announcement, the museum's renovation is aimed at enhancing its scientific, educational, and cultural potential.
The reconstruction of the museum by the end of the current year is provided for under a decree signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 5 February. In 2026, Uzbekistan is marking the 690th anniversary of the birth of Amir Temur — the distinguished military commander and founder of the Timurid Empire.
Under the decree, April has been declared the Month of Amir Temur, who was born on 9 April 1336.
The State Museum of Timurid History was opened on 18 October 1996 — the year marking the 660th anniversary of the birth of Amir Temur — and has since its founding been one of the key centers for the study and promotion of the historical heritage of the Timurid era.
