St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Delegation Reviews Medical Cargo Infrastructure at Tashkent Airport

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (United States), together with representatives of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, visited the cargo terminal of Tashkent International Airport to review the airport’s capabilities for handling and storing medical cargo.

During the visit, the delegation familiarized itself with the airport’s infrastructure for processing pharmaceutical shipments, including medicines requiring special transportation conditions and strict temperature control.

According to Uzbekistan Airports, the cargo complex at Tashkent Airport has an annual handling capacity of up to 120,000 tonnes and includes warehouse facilities with a total area of 8,500 square meters. These facilities comprise refrigerated and frozen storage areas designed for temperature-sensitive cargo.

All specialized zones are equipped with thermal sensors, ensuring continuous monitoring and compliance with required storage conditions.

The reliability and speed of pharmaceutical cargo handling are of critical importance, as adherence to transportation requirements directly affects drug quality and the timely delivery of medical care.

The St. Jude delegation, led by Vice President of the hospital and Director of the St. Jude Global program Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo, has been in Uzbekistan from February 23 to 28, 2026, as part of efforts to expand international cooperation in healthcare and exchange expertise in improving the treatment of childhood cancers.

The visit program includes working meetings, educational events, and the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
