SSS and Interior Ministry Officers Detain Several Individuals for Illegal Trafficking of Marijuana and Controlled Substances

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Extensive law enforcement operations targeting the illegal circulation of narcotics were carried out in Tashkent, the Ferghana Region, and the capital city.

Joint actions by officers of the State Security Service (SSS) and the Interior Ministry led to the detention of several individuals and the seizure of a significant volume of prohibited substances.

In the Bostanlyk District of Tashkent Region, a search of the residences of five brothers uncovered and confiscated 9.014 kilograms of marijuana, one cannabis plant, pneumatic weapons, 21 cartridges, 19 casings, a rubber baton, and two cold weapons.

It was established that these individuals had previously faced criminal charges for drug-related offenses but had not learned from past violations. Moreover, two of their children, born in 2003, were involved in the criminal activity.

At the residence of an accomplice born in 1970, authorities found seven packages of dried cannabis and smoking paraphernalia. All seized items have been taken as material evidence, and criminal cases have been initiated against the detainees, with investigations ongoing.

Additionally, joint operations by the State Security Service and the Customs Committee disrupted the trafficking of drugs smuggled from the Republic of Tajikistan.

In one case, a resident of Yunusabad District, born in 1983, was found with 967 grams of hashish in a Cobalt vehicle, while an associate born in 1985 had an additional 1.992 kilograms of the substance. Criminal cases have been filed against them under Articles 246, Part 2, and 273, Part 5 of the Criminal Code, and both were remanded in custody.

In Ferghana Region, during a joint operational intervention, authorities seized 6,880 tablets of the potent drug Zardex from an individual born in 1956. The substance is believed to have been brought into the country from Kyrgyzstan via alternate routes.

The total value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at approximately 412 million soums. A criminal case has been initiated, and investigative actions continue.
