Song Written About Discrimination Against Uzbek Citizens by Wizz Air

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Renowned Canadian musician Dave Carroll, author of the famous hit United Breaks Guitars, has released a new song about Wizz Air, criticizing the airline for its systematic discrimination against citizens of Uzbekistan.

The main character of the song is Sukhrob Ubaydullaev, a student from Uzbekistan who was returning home from Germany under the Work and Travel program. Sukhrob had purchased a ticket with a layover in Rome but was denied boarding solely because of his nationality. The young man spent a week traveling across four countries in an attempt to reach home.

Sukhrob Ubaydullaev has filed a lawsuit against Wizz Air in an international court in Italy, seeking a fair ruling regarding the airline’s discriminatory treatment of Uzbek citizens and its actions.

Dave Carroll is well known for his 2009 song United Breaks Guitars, inspired by his personal experience when his guitar was damaged by United Airlines. The song went viral on YouTube and iTunes, demonstrating the power of music as a tool for consumer advocacy.

Carroll’s new song once again draws attention to the issue of discrimination and reminds companies that unfair treatment of passengers is unacceptable.

In July, the Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air announced the closure of its subsidiary Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and the suspension of all flights from the UAE capital as of 1 September 2025, including those to Uzbekistan.
