Some 44 Cases of Food Poisoning Recorded in Uzbekistan in 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Home-made vegetable preserves were the leading cause of food poisoning in Uzbekistan in 2025. This was reported by Nurmat Otabekov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health, as he presented the findings of food safety inspections.

A total of 44 poisoning cases were recorded across the country. In 29 of these, 63 people were affected, including 17 children who had consumed home-prepared vegetable preserves. Six cases of poisoning were recorded among children attending preschool institutions.

In addition, inspections led to the rejection of 33,230 tonnes of food products that had either passed their expiry date, failed organoleptic standards, or lacked confirmed quality and safety guarantees. The largest volumes involved sugar and confectionery at 259 tonnes, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at 251 tonnes, fruit, vegetables, and melons at 220 tonnes, and meat products at 106 tonnes.

Sanitary authorities called on citizens to refrain from consuming home-made preserves and any food products whose safety has not been verified.
