Socio-economic development of Surkhandarya region over five years

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) presents the results of the development of the Surkh Surkhandarya andarya region over the past five years.

Surkhandarya region is located in the south-east of the republic, in the Surkhan-Sherabad valley. It borders Afghanistan along the Amu Darya in the south, Tajikistan in the north, northeast and east, Turkmenistan in the southwest, and the Kashkadarya region in the northwest.

CERR experts presented the main changes in the socio-economic development of the region that have occurred during the last 5 years of active reforms.

In the north, the region borders with Kazakhstan, and in the south - with Tajikistan. Syrdarya is one of the three regions of the republic.

Gross domestic product of the region (GRP) for 2017-2020 increased by 17% and amounted to 24.9 trillion soums.

During this period, the service market grew by 37% from 3.8 trillion soums up to 8 trillion soums.

The volume of industrial production in five years increased by 19% from 2.2 trillion soums up to 5.3 trillion soums.

Agricultural production since 2016 has increased by 11% from 8.9 trillion soums. 19.9 trillion soums in 2020.

The number of enterprises operating in the region increased by 55% from 18.8 thousand in 2016 to 29.1 thousand in 2020.

The number of operating enterprises in the region increased by 37% from 13.3 thousand in 2016 to 18.2 thousand in 2020.

In the field of infrastructure development for 2016-2020. 32 km of gas pipelines, 41 km of highways and 893 km of water supply networks have been laid.

During this period, about 138 thousand new jobs were created.

During the same period, 5 560 thousand sq. m. were commissioned in the region. housing, 12.7 thousand places were created in preschool institutions, 41.1 thousand places in schools, 2.9 thousand hospital beds.

With a huge economic potential, geographical and transport potential, the region plays an important role in the life of our country.

The natural and climatic conditions of Surkhandarya differ from other regions; in the oasis there is an opportunity to harvest two or three times, to grow heat-loving plants. Modern enterprises are being created, new jobs are being created.

Agriculture and small business are developing confidently. In addition, there are deposits of oil and gas, coal, polymetals, and salt in the region.
