Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) presents the results of the development of Samarkand region over the past five years. The experts presented the main changes in the socio-economic development of the region that have occurred during the last years of active reforms.
Samarkand region has a high economic potential, rich history and culture.
In recent years, new enterprises, small businesses, diversified farms have been created in the region. Promising projects have been implemented in the fields of tourism, textile industry, agriculture and others. Residential buildings, hospitals, schools and kindergartens have been built. The implementation of the started projects continues.
Gross domestic product of the region (GRP) for 2017-2020 increased by 11% and amounted to 43.8 trillion soums.
Industrial production increased from 7.4 trillion soums to 18.4 trillion soums. soums (growth 28%).
Agricultural production increased by 0.7%, from 17.6 trillion soums in 2016 to 33.8 trillion soums in 2020.
The number of operating enterprises in the region increased by 35% from 34.6 thousand in 2016 to 46.7 thousand in 2020.
In the field of infrastructure development for 2016-2020. 243 km of gas pipelines and 1,583 km of water supply networks were laid, and almost 100 km of highways were put into operation.
For five years, about 203 thousand jobs were created in Samarkand region.
During the same period, 4 854 thousand sq. meters were put into operation in the region. housing, created 13 thousand places in preschool institutions, 59.4 thousand places in schools, 2.5 thousand hospital beds.
By the end of this year, the implementation of 1184 projects worth 12.1 trillion soums is scheduled in Samarkand region, which will create 17.3 thousand new jobs.
The textile, food and electrical industries, processing of agricultural products, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, as well as the production of building materials are determined by the main "points of growth" of Samarkand region. Effective use of the potential of these industries will allow in a short time to achieve a significant increase in the economic indicators of the region.
Today the population of Samarkand exceeds 600 thousand people. The existing housing stock and infrastructure are gradually exhausting their potential. To turn Samarkand into a million-plus city, its area will be expanded by 18 thousand hectares and five districts will be created in it in stages. This will also become another “growth point” for the region, the reason for the creation of thousands of jobs.
At the same time, Samarkand is planned to become a center for MICE tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) and international conferences. For this, an international congress center and exhibition complexes with an area of 18 thousand square meters will be built. After the launch of this center, 2000 jobs will be created.
