Silk Road Race Series Kicks Off in Nukus
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 29 March, Nukus hosted the opening stage of the international Silk Road running series, marking the start of a new season that combines mass sports, regional tourism, and the country’s cultural heritage.
Approximately 2,000 participants took to the city’s central square, including students, professional athletes, amateur runners, and visitors from other regions and countries.
The event featured 5 km and 10 km races, the student run “Talaba Yugur,” the inclusive race “Inson Uchun” for participants with disabilities, and children’s races of 250 m and 500 m. The route passed through Nukus’s central streets, covering key landmarks of the city, which is part of the historic Silk Road. Participants praised the well-planned course and favorable weather conditions, which helped many achieve personal bests.
Shukhrat Usmanov, Director of the Central Asian Academy of Walking and Running, emphasized the significance of the event: “Mass participation in running allows for different formats, catering to everyone’s interests. We hold Talaba Yugur for students and the Inson Uchun inclusive start for people with disabilities. Silk Road is not just about sports—it’s a chance to explore Uzbek cities through active participation and reveal the potential of each region.”
Winners and prize recipients were determined for the 5 km and 10 km races among men and women. The prize fund was as follows: for the 10 km race—1st place 6 million soums, 2nd place 5 million soums, 3rd place 4 million soums; for the 5 km race—1st place 3.5 million soums, 2nd place 3 million soums, 3rd place 2.5 million soums.
