SICPA can become provider of goods labeling services
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- National Agency for Project Management under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan is holding talks with a foreign company on introduction of compulsory labeling of certain categories of imported and manufactured goods in the country.
It should be noted that on 1 August 2019, Uzbekistan introduced compulsory labeling of certain categories of imported and manufactured goods in the country.
The main objectives of introducing a labeling system for goods are to ensure the health and safety of the population by preventing the illegal importation into the republic, the production and sale of counterfeit and clandestine goods, as well as increasing the collection of taxes and other mandatory payments.
At the same time, recently, a number of anonymous publications have been posted on various Internet resources, the authors of which try to blacken and discredit the measures taken to introduce mandatory labeling of goods by various kinds of speculation and distortion of facts.
The National Agency for Project Management was instructed to ensure, by 1 February 2019, selection of a labeling service provider with practical experience, ensuring a high level of security, reliability and quality of services provided.
The agency should conduct negotiations and conclude agreement for services for 5-10 year with fixed cost. It announced selection of the service provider in December 2018.
According to the results of the consideration of proposals received, the Swiss labeling company SICPA was selected as the sole supplier of labeling services.
“SICPA” is a world-renowned company in the field of security printing, labeling and tracking of goods - the leader in the production of protective ink for most world currencies (euro banknotes, US dollars and Uzbek soums), as well as security documents, including identity documents, - passports.
The company has been a partner of Davlat Belgisi since its inception. It is actively involved in the market of labeling and product tracking systems (Brazil, Morocco, Malaysia, Chile, Massachusetts and California, USA, Canada, Turkey, Georgia, Kenya). The company has offices in 32 countries and products in more than 180 countries, with over 200 patents worldwide. It is important to understand that in such companies, strict rules are in place to prevent any manifestations of a conflict of interest and a corruption component.
According to reports, the only owner of SICPA is the Amon family. Currently, negotiations are continuing on reducing the cost of marking services and their fixation. The corresponding contract for the provision of labeling services is not concluded.
In turn, the procedure for mandatory labeling, agreements on price indicators, terms of delivery of equipment, labeling methods, technical support and other technical and economic parameters have been developed jointly with the involved ministries and departments with the involvement of business entities.
